Justice Reinvestment Initiative
The New Mexico Sentencing Commission has partnered with the Crime and Justice Institute (CJI) on a Justice Reinvestment Initiative for New Mexico. CJI provides technical assistance to states interested in using a data-driven approach to design, enact, and implement system-level reforms. The goals of these reforms are:
• Improving public safety by reducing recidivism,
• Using criminal justice resources more effectively, and
• Achieving better rehabilitation outcomes
A working group made up of criminal justice stakeholders from across the state has been formed to oversee the justice reinvestment work. CJI will make a series of presentations to this working group regarding their analyses of data drawn from the state’s criminal justice system. Copies of the presentations can be found below:
